Cabo San Lucas is the place to be if you love big-game fishing. Fall brings some excellent opportunities for anglers.
Game Fish Highlights
- Marlin – Marlin remains strong all year long.
- Yellowfin Tuna – Plenty of yellowfin offshore; expect both medium “football” size tuna and larger fish if you go farther out.
- Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) – Bright, fast, acrobatic! Fall tends to bring some of the best specimens.
- Wahoo – Known for speed. Best action is later in the season around deep structure, with live bait or trolling.
Best Time of Day to Fish
- Early Morning (Dawn → Late Morning): Cooler, calmer seas. Fish are near reefs or structures where bait gathers. This is prime time.
- Late Afternoon → Early Evening: Shadows lengthen, tides shift; predators like tuna and wahoo often explode in activity. Dusk light seems to bring out the biggest fighters.
Why Fall is Great Right Now
- You get a wide variety: marlin, tuna, dorado, wahoo are all active in September/October.
- Mornings and evenings are more comfortable—less heat and wind than midsummer.
- Fishing pressure is down compared to peak summer, so more open spots, less crowded charters, more personal time on the water.
